recognizing the signs

Suicide often leaves signs. Knowing them can save lives. Look out for WITS:

  • Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities.
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs.
  • Talking about feeling hopeless, trapped, or like a burden
  • Sudden mood changes or recklessness.

It’s okay to ask, "Are you thinking about hurting yourself?"

How to help If someone you know may be struggling:

  • Listen Without Judgment: Let them share their feelings without interruption.
  • Offer Support: Encourage them to talk to a trusted friend, family member, or professional.
  • Stay With Them: If they are in immediate danger, do not leave them alone.
